Helmet style cap. Very easy to knit in garter stitch.
Sizes: Small, medium and large. To fit head size up to 18½" (19½", 21") (47 (50, 53) cm).
The exact finished size is determined by the amount of felting and by what the hat is blocked over. You will need a bowl or ball slightly larger than the child's head for blocking.
Yarn Requirements: 150 (175, 215) yards (137 (160, 197) meters) of worsted weight yarn. Choose a wool or other natural fiber yarn that will felt easily.
Optional: 12 (13, 14) yards (11 (12, 14) meters of contrast.
All yarns felt differently, always test felt a sample before starting your cap to be sure of the results.
Needles: US size 10.5 (6.5mm) straight needles.
Gauge Before Felting: Approximately 13 sts = 4" (10cm).
Suggested Yarn: Use 8 ply for a lighter weight felt, 10 ply for a thick felt.
